Staff Sgt. Trevor M. Woodruff, chief drill instructor, Receiving Company, gives new recruits with Delta Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, a contraband brief at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, March 5. At this time, the recruits are informed of all of the items they aren’t allowed to have in order to begin training. In the following week of receiving, they will conduct an initial strength test, undergo medical screenings and immunizations, and learn the basic rules of recruiting training. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Delta Company is scheduled to graduate June 1.
